Ezines are rapidly becoming one of the most popular marketing tools on the internet! An ezine is an electronic magazine or newsletter like the one you're reading right now. The number of ezines on the net has exploded from a few hundred in 1993 to a number in the thousands in 1996. (Growing too rapidly for an accurate count.) There are ezines on hundreds of different subjects!

Now before I go into details on ezine marketing, I must first explain the difference between the two very distinct types of ezines on the net.

The first type of ezine is basically a web site. Anyone that has the web address can check out the ezine. Some are free and others charge a subscription fee. Although this type of ezine is very nice to look at (graphics and sometimes audio included) the marketing value is not nearly as strong as the next type.

The next type of ezine is delivered directly to your email address, like this ezine. That's what makes it so popular with online marketers. Since people don't have to actively seek out each issue, the marketing value is boosted greatly!

These "email ezines" have begun to grow in number very rapidly, as more and more people jump on the internet. Most of these are free to subscribe to and run weekly. Although not as fancy as a "web ezine", (email ezines are currently text only) this type of ezine has proven to be an excellent marketing tool.

Take a look at the advertising section of your favorite email ezine. The reason there are so many ads there is simple... ezine advertising works! Not only do you reach your target audience, you reach them by the thousands. Of all the online marketing methods available, this could be the most effective. Many larger companies are just starting to realize this and are starting to explore this exciting new advertising medium. Compared with the high costs of web site banner advertising, ezine advertising is a bargain!
